Australian
Study of Red Light Cameras (Andreassen)
An exhaustive ten-year study
of the effect of red light cameras on
accident rates in Australia.
Australian
Road Research Board The
most complete study of the correlation
of accidents and the use of red light
cameras. It closely examined every accident
report filed over a ten year period
(including several years before and
after cameras were installed). It found
the cameras provided no benefit.
Article Excerpt:The results
of this study suggest that the installation
of the RLC at these sites did not provide
any reduction in accidents, rather there
has been increases in rear end and adjacent
approaches accidents on a before and
after basis and also by comparison with
the changes in accidents at intersection
signals.
